Bio

Kevin Sharpe grew up in a musical household where, when he was born, there was a drumset and a piano available for him to explore. His early days were influenced by his Gospel pianist mother, his brother’s Funk bands, and his father’s Jazz record collection.  He began his musical career at the age of seven singing gospel in his church choir and by age eleven he was playing for that same choir.  Later in college he studied classical percussion, arranging and choral conducting. The Springfield, Massachusetts native also studied voice with Dr. Horace Clarence Boyer and improvisation with Yusef Lateef. Since graduating with degrees in Music Education and Performance, he has performed with various artists including John Blake, Fellowship, soul diva Betty Harris, and others. He’s toured Europe as a vocalist and instrumentalist. He's been a choral director for Dartmouth and Smith Colleges and he has also worked for several years as music director in the contemporary gospel group Fellowship.

Kevin Sharpe, winner of New England Urban Music Award, currently is an adjunct Professor at Springfield Technical Community College where he teaches piano, chorus, and music appreciation courses. He serves as organist for the Morning Star Church and is the leader of the modern Gospel ensemble The Kevin Sharpe Group. He is a workshop leader for SwingHigh Productions and also works as a freelance musician and private instructor. Mr. Sharpe uses DSSP keyboard pedals.
